LOWELL — One man was shot to death and two others were reportedly suffering from life-threatening injuries after a shooting outside a home in the Highlands neighborhood yesterday afternoon, authorities said.

A man was pronounced dead on Smith Street, while two men were transported to area hospitals, according to an email from Meghan Kelly, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The names of the victims have not been released. No arrests or suspects had been announced as of last night. The DA’s office initially said two men were killed in the shooting, but then revised an initial press release to say only one man had died as of last night.

Shortly after the shooting, several people gathered outside their homes. People estimated hearing anywhere from five to 15 gunshots about 4 p.m.

Police were seeking a silver, older model Toyota SUV that may have blood on the door, according to police radio broadcasts.

According to an emergency radio broadcast, the vehicle was used to drop off at least one of the shooting victims at Lowell General Hospital’s Main Campus. The driver then sped away on Varnum Street toward Tyngsboro, according to radio broadcasts.

A victim dropped off at the hospital suffered a gunshot wound to the head, according to the radio broadcast.
