Robert McLean of Melrose, Korean War vet, at age 85

Robert J. McLean of Melrose, a Korean War veteran, died Monday at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 85.

He was born and raised in Everett.

He was a 1952 graduate of Everett High School.

Mr. McLean served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and was critically wounded in the Battle of Boulder City.

He was awarded the Purple Heart as well as numerous medals for his valor and service.

Mr. McLean attended Suffolk University and married his high school sweetheart.

He and his wife raised their children in Melrose.

Mr. McLean worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years until retirement in 1998.

He enjoyed caring for his garden during his retirement and rooting for the Red Sox.

Mr. McLean was past president of the E-Club of Everett, a coach for the Roxbury Boys Club, a 4th knight with the Knights of Columbus and was the founder of The Friends of Melrose Hockey.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; four sons, Robert J. Jr. of North Andover, Kenneth J. of Miami, Fla., Brian D. of Groveland and Gregory J. of Melrose; three daughters, Laura Lee LaCob of Coconut Creek, Fla., Arlene M. Semiao of North Reading and Valerie Capanna of Peabody; 10 grandchild­ren and three greatgrand­children.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody.

Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
