Astros take 11th straight road win

Lance McCullers pitched seven strong innings, Jake Marisnick homered and the Houston Astros beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 1-0, last night in St. Petersburg, Fla., to tie a franchise record with their 11th straight road victory.

McCullers (9-3) gave up three hits while striking out seven. The Astros have won his last six starts and have won 18-of-21 overall.

The Rays, who had won five straight overall and eight straight at home, had runners on first and third with none out in the eighth against reliever Chris Devenski, but Matt Duffy lined into a double play and Jake Bauers grounded out.

It was Devenski’s 12th straight scoreless appearance. Hector Rondon pitched the ninth for his fifth save in seven chances.

The Astros said shortstop Carlos Correa is heading to the 10-day disabled list because of a stiff back.

Athletics 4, Tigers 2 — Jed Lowrie had two more hits, Sean Manaea pitched six strong innings and Oakland beat host Detroit to sweep the four-game series.

Lowrie went 9-for-17 with two homers and three doubles in the series, driving in at least one run in all four games. Oakland has won 10-of-12 while Detroit lost its ninth straight.

Also, Chris Bosio said he was fired Wednesday as the Tigers pitching coach for making insensitiv­e comments after using the word “monkey.” Bosio insists he didn’t say it in a racial or demeaning context but was talking about pitcher Daniel Stumpf, who is white, and is nicknamed “Spider Monkey.” Bosio said an African-American clubhouse attendant overheard the conversati­on.

Mariners 4, Orioles 2 —

Nelson Cruz homered and drove in three runs, and Seattle utilized two errors in the 10th inning to beat host Baltimore and improve to 8-0 in extra innings this season.

Twins 2, White Sox 1 —

Max Kepler drew a two-out, bases loaded walk in the 13th inning and Minnesota outlasted host Chicago.

National League

Cubs 11, Dodgers 5 — Anthony Rizzo’s three-run double and Addison Russell’s two-run homer highlighte­d a seven-run seventh as host Chicago erupted after Clayton Kershaw exited to beat Los Angeles.

Also, the Cubs’ Yu Darvish, on the disabled list (tendinitis) since May 26, sustained a setback during a bullpen session with pain in his right throwing arm.

Diamondbac­ks 4, Marlins 0 — Zack Greinke pitched seven solid innings and was an offensive contributo­r as well in helping Arizona defeat host Miami.

Greinke (8-5) singled twice, drove in a run, stole a base and scored, raising his season average to .300, and is now 7-for-7 lifetime in steal attempts.

Brewers 6, Reds 4 — Eric Thames hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, and Milwaukee edged host Cincinnati in a game that included a benches-clearing incident in the third when the Reds’ Joey Votto exchanged words with Brewers catcher Erik Kratz.

Phillies 4, Nationals 3 — Aaron Nola pitched into the eighth inning to win his 10th game of the season, Rhys Hoskins homered again and host Philadelph­ia beat Washington.

Rockies 9, Giants 8 — DJ LeMahieu hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Colorado rallied past host San Francisco.
