Addeche’s goal proves all stars

WESTWOOD — Jake Addeche wasn’t going to let it turn into an offensive showcase like all-star contests tend to become.
The Foxboro senior goalie had other plans and showed them to all in the third quarter of last night’s sixth Boston Lax All-American game.
Addeche, who will play at Hofstra next year, dazzled in that quarter by making eight saves to lead Team Shield to a 19-11 win over Team Hammer at Xaverian’s Hawk Bowl.
“I knew I was coming in in the second half and we had a lead, but end of the day, there’s always teams that are going to rally and teams that are going to fight back,” Addeche said. “I just didn’t want to let my guard down and let up any easy goals.”
After Addeche allowed a goal on the first shot he faced, he became a wall and made saves with every part of his body as Team Shield’s 10-4 halftime lead grew.
Tabor Academy’s Pat Daly, a Shrewsbury native, also starred, scoring a game-high five goals to earn game MVP honors.
“You play with these kids all year, even growing up, and just being out here and knowing everyone is just fun,” said Daly, who will play at Villanova. “The skill level is absurd. Every kid on the field is meant to be out here. Just being able to be out here and move the ball around with all of them is more than enough.”
Needham’s Jason Child, who has three goals, Xaverian’s Sam Jean and Scituate’s David Murray each scored to start the fourth quarter to pull Team Hammer within 13-8.
Team Shield responded with Belmont Hill’s Jake Haase (three goals) scoring twice. Jett Dziama of Nobles also played well with three goals while Roxbury Latin goalie Deven Varney scored the game’s final goal and made seven saves.
BC High and North Carolina commit Will Bowen, who did not play due to another obligation, received the Boston Lax Bruce Lerch Player of the Year award, named after the longtime Herald reporter who passed away in December 2015.
