Good news from Thailand
The daring rescue that saved 12 boys and their soccer coach from a cave in Thailand is an exemplary illustration of the best in mankind.
The very thought of navigating underwater in a dark, confined space with limited oxygen for a long period of time is enough to make most of us shudder.
Thailand’s Navy SEALs and some international divers miraculously pulled it off, and the boys and their coach were saved after 18 days. A SEAL did tragically lose his life Friday and he should be remembered for his heroism, as should all involved.
This was an almost impossible situation but the rescuers summoned the resolve to get it done because failure was unacceptable. We laud the courage of the rescuers and appreciate that our own elite military and first responders perform heroically themselves, day in and day out.
Thailand’s Navy SEALs wrote on their Facebook page, “We are not sure if this is a miracle, a science, or what. All the thirteen Wild Boars (soccer team) are now out of the cave. Everyone is safe”
President Trump joined the celebration in earnest, tweeting, “On behalf of the United States, congratulations to the Thai Navy SEALs and all on the successful rescue of the 12 boys and their coach from the treacherous cave in Thailand.”
He added: “Such a beautiful moment — all freed, great job!”
It was a great job and we salute the great people involved.
