HOME & AWAY

- By HERALD STAFF

We're at peak summer in terms of great weather. So head out for a host of family friendly events then back home for a TV series to enjoy together, as well as one that's for the grown-ups — all for a Great Day Out/Great Night In:

LICK ’N’ LISTEN: Ice cream and music — what more do you need for a great summer day? Well, visiting a few fave PBS kids characters wouldn't hurt. The WGBH FunFest has all three today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at its Brighton studio, and the family friendly event also throws in games, rides and face painting. Perhaps they should have called it the Way FunFest. Tickets are $15 each, $39.99 for a family of four; children younger than 1 don't require a ticket. Avoid bringing large backpacks. WGBH Studios, 1 Guest St., Brighton; wgbh.org.

RAISE THE WOOF: Finally, an excuse to take your dog to lunch (as if you needed one). Tomorrow's Bow Wow Burger Bash at the North Station Tasty Burger promises great food — for both of you — a free goodie bag, free professional photo, and the chance to win swag and Red Sox tickets. Burgers or Fries costumes are welcome (that means dogs and their people) and earn you an extra raffle ticket. It goes down from noon to 1:30 p.m. Early bird tickets are $12; once they are sold out, general admission is $15. The ticket price also includes a free heartworm/ tick screening test and much more. All dogs must be leashed. Tasty Burger, 1 Nashua St. Buy tickets in advance online on Eventbrite: bostonburgerbash.eventbrite.com. A portion of proceeds will benefit PAWS New England, an all-breed dog rescue.

GOOOOOAAAAAL!: You say you want to wander the food trucks, artisan booths and farmers market of SoWa Open Market (460-540 Harrison Ave.) tomorrow on a perfect summer day, but you also want to catch the World Cup? No worries. Thanks to the Beer Barn located in the Power Station (540 Harrison Ave., open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., just in time for an 11 a.m. kickoff), you can watch France go up against Croatia while quaffing a brew curated by the Craft Collective. A few on the menu: Radiant Pig TV Party, Fiddlehead IPA, Queen City South End Lager and, for cider fans, Prospect Ciderworks Paradise and Sidro.

WHAT SEEMS DUMB: Prankster Sacha Baron Cohen (“Borat”) returns to TV for “Who is America?” (tonight at midnight on Showtime's on-demand service and tomorrow at 10 p.m. on Showtime). What little is known about the show has been leaked by those he allegedly pranked, including newsman Ted Koppel and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who alleges he disguised himself as a vet to interview her. Howard Dean, Bernie Sanders, Trent Lott and Joe Moore are also allegedly on the guest list for the sevenepisode season.

SAVING THE WORLD IN TIGHTY-WHITIES: “The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants” (streaming now on Netflix), an animated series based on the beloved books by Dav Pilkey, follows the adventures of two comic-book loving fourth-grade besties and the principal they trick into becoming a superhero. No wedgies, please.

?? ?? A FULL DAY: Clockwise from above: Eat some ice cream at WGBH FunFest; dine with your pup at Bow Wow Burger Bash; channel your youth with ‘The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants’; stay up late for ‘Who is America?’; and catch the Croatia-France World Cup...
