A Hyde Park man has been charged in the June stabbing death of a 58-yearold Mattapan man.

Kenton Thomas, 32, was arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court on Friday, where he was charged with the murder of Jocelin Nordeus, 58.

Thomas was ordered held without bail by Judge Jonathan Tynes.

Police found Nordeus “suffering from stab wounds” June 1 at about 2:50 a.m. on River Street. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Police Commissioner William B. Evans praised his homicide detectives for cracking the case.

It is the second homicide cleared in two days by Boston police detectives, he said.

“To my homicide unit detectives, I want to thank and acknowledge their hard work, long hours and never-ending commitment to justice that led to the arrest of the suspect in this case,” Evans said in a statement.

“This is a unit that never stops searching until the suspect is found. And I gratefully acknowledge and appreciate that this is the second 2018 homicide case cleared in the last two days, which means the men and women of the Homicide Unit have been able to secure justice in over half of the 29 homicides that have occurred this year.”

Evans said his thoughts were with the victim’s family.

“I sincerely hope that news of this arrest brings some small level of comfort and closure to the friends and loved ones of Jocelin Nordeus.”

Thomas is due back in court Aug. 16.
