‘Political climate’ pushes Spicer tour from Mass.

Sean Spicer’s book tour for “The Briefing” has been bumped out of the Bay State.

President Trump’s former White House spokesman — an early lightning rod for the administration — called on the state’s all-Democratic delegation to come to his defense.

So far, there’s been no takers. “We live in a free country and if people want to express themselves then that’s the beauty of the First Amendment and our country is all about,” Spicer told Boston Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting” show yesterday.

“I think the question is when we shut down voices either on the left or on the right and don’t allow people to have that voice, that’s the problem and I think we’re seeing it more and more,” he said.

He added it would “be nice” if U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren — a possible presidential candidate in 2020 — or fellow Sen. Edward J. Markey would come to his defense.

“Are they ever going to get asked ‘Is this appropriate for the free exchange of ideas in the state that you represent?’” Spicer added.

Spicer did appear later yesterday in Rhode Island to pump his book “The Briefing: Politics, the Press, and the President.”

But his scheduled stop in Seekonk today to sign books at the BJ’s Wholesale Club was dropped.

According to Spicer, BJ’s told him, “Unfortunately due to the political climate we’ve had to cancel the event.”

A manager at the Seekonk BJ’s told the Herald yesterday the reaction to the called off event “goes both ways.” He then hung up.

This week a heckler in a bookstore in New York City disrupted another of Spicer’s appearances, yelling “Hey Sean, you’re a real piece of garbage!”

Spicer said he’s just out to shine a light on the inner workings of the Oval Office.

“I don’t think everyone who’s going to come out is going to be a big supporter, but I think a part of what I’m trying to do is to be able to share with people my experiences that are in a book about what has happened and what is going on in the last couple of years and give people a real insider look at that,” he said.

Legal scholar Alan Dershowitz, who has also been a target for his book “The Case Against Impeaching Trump,” said political discourse has hit rock bottom.

“It’s terrible and shows the intolerance of what’s going on across the country,” he said. “It’s a dangerous sign of the times.

“But,” he added, “I’m fighting back.”
