KRASINSKI HOPING FOR XMAS REUNION

Newton thesp suggests ‘Office’ holiday special

-

John Krasinski is making it known: He’s in full support of a reboot of “The Office.” Despite recently side-stepping into the realm of drama, the Newton-raised actor is pushing for the comedic cast to give us all at least an encore episode.

“I think we should reboot it. I think it’s hard obviously with everybody’s schedule to do an ‘Office’ reboot, but I would so be down,” he just told Entertainment Weekly.

For Krasinski, his reasoning is far more about sentiment than it is about getting work. The actor has had more than enough projects on his plate — from directing and acting in his thrilling blockbuster hit “A Quiet Place,” to starring in the new “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” series hitting Amazon Prime on Aug. 31. Instead, regrouping “The Office” cast for a reboot would be part family reunion, part homage to the start of their stardom.

Krasinski said: “It wasn’t just a show for us. It was a family. None of us had really done anything before. Certainly Steve (Carell) had been on ‘The Daily Show.’ I had done nothing — I was a waiter at the time. And Rainn (Wilson) had been on ‘Six Feet Under’ and a couple other things, but we really came into that feeling like a repertory company. It felt like we were doing regional theater.

“It was so awesome. It felt so intimate and small. And then when it caught on and people were actually watching, we were genuinely blown away. So all that to say, doing a reboot for us wouldn’t just be about bringing the show back, it would be about getting back together with those people. They’re my family, they’re my first and only original business Hollywood-y family, so I’d be lucky to do it.”

As of now, shooting a reunion is still just a matter of chatter. And for logistics’ sake, Krasinski proposed that if need be, they might have to shoot something short of a full season of the show, whose cast was filled with fellow Massachusetts-raised talents, including Acton’s Carell, Newton’s B.J. Novak and Cambridge’s Mindy Kaling.

“Maybe we could do like a Christmas special or something,” he said. “The British show did a Christmas special, which is like, ‘Where are they now?’ for one episode, because I don’t know how we’ll get everybody together for 22 episodes.”

‘I think we should reboot it. I think it’s hard obviously with everybody’s schedule ... but I would so be down.’
