Back-to-school fashions will bestow high style marks

-

Backto-school clothes shopping is a fall rite of passage. And this year's hot trends for the high school to collegiate crews are going to be especially fun to scout out and add to autumn's wardrobe. With more grown-up but still fun looks — everything from edgy sweats to versatile cardis and suede moto jackets — here are some key pieces to keep an eye out for: Add a last little hint of summer to your repertoire with the whimsical Daisy print jean ($178 at thereformation.com). Its straight-cut legs and high waist are a cheeky nod to the '60s and '70s (full of flower power, obviously). Embroidery not your style? The Reformation carries this pair in four other colors and styles as well.

For an edgier take on back to school, the Clean Crop Sweat in black from ASOS Design ($23 at usasos.com) is a sweatshirt boasting sharp lines and a boxy cut to make you look and feel relaxed without the risk of looking frumpy. It's a perfect addition to any campus weekend outfit.

Even well into late September, a sundress not only works but can be a wardrobe staple. (Think walking to class on the last warm days of the season, or even dressing it up for homecoming weekend.) Case in point: The Silk Belladonna Dress in Painted Carnations ($79.99 at madewell.com). For an easy everyday look all over campus, a perfect T-shirt is a must. The Esprit ($24 at usasos.com) can be kept simple and clean over jeans, dressed up by tucking it into a skirt or taken somewhere in-between with a pair of sleek capris.

Everyone needs a cardi that will take you from class to the library to a Netflix marathon while still feeling like you stayed in bed. Here's one: The Kent Cardigan Sweater ($39.99-$98 at madewell. com). And the bonus? This transitional piece is perfect for layering, so you won't have to choose between style and comfort.

Meanwhile, it's tough not to love a good moto jacket for fall. Exhibit A: the No Limit Red Suede Moto Jacket by BlankNYC ($125.90 at nordstrom.com). Sure, it costs a bit more than your average teen fall staple, but think of how many times you'll wear it. It's a stunningly simple addition to tie together any outfit, and will give you that finishing touch your look needs, whether you made a point of coordinating everything or just pulled it all straight out of the dryer.
