Kluber lifts Tribe

Corey Kluber pitched a three-hitter for his first shutout this season and new arrival Leonys Martin homered again, leading the Indians to a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels last night in Cleveland.

Kluber (14-6) matched zeros for five innings with Felix Pena (1-3), who carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Martin hit a leadoff homer. Martin has two homers in just three games since coming to Cleveland in a trade with Detroit.

The Angels were again without All-Star outfielder Mike Trout, who missed his third straight game with a sore right wrist.

White Sox 2, Rays 1 — Tim Anderson scored when Matt Duffy committed a throwing error on Leury Garcia’s two-strike bunt in the ninth inning, and Chicago beat Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla., for its third straight win.

Anderson led off the ninth with a double off Yonny Chirinos (0-4). Garcia then bunted a 0-2 pitch toward third, and Duffy threw wildly toward first.

Jose Abreu hit his 19th homer in the fourth for Chicago, tying it at 1. It was Abreu’s third homer in three games.

Twins 8, Royals 2 — Max Kepler had three hits, including a two-run homer that put Minnesota ahead to stay, and Jose Berrios threw seven sharp innings to help Minnesota beat Kansas City in Minneapoli­s.

Eddie Rosario and Logan Morrison also homered as the Twins won their second straight against the Royals. Kepler went 3-for-3 with a walk and scored two runs.

Rangers 3, Orioles 1 — Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor both homered for the third straight game, Mike Minor worked an efficient seven innings and Texas beat Baltimore in Arlington, Texas.

National League

Reds, Nationals split — Bryce Harper was forced to leave soon after being hit by a pitch as host Washington won the nightcap with Cincinnati, 6-2 to split a doublehead­er.

The Reds won the opener, 7-1.

Harper was hit in the right kneecap in the sixth by a pitch from Austin Brice. Harper initially struggled to put any weight on his leg, but ultimately made his way to first base.

But Harper labored defensivel­y chasing after a double by Mason Williams in the seventh and was immediatel­y replaced in right field by Adam Eaton — Harper said he’s not sure if he’ll be able to play today.

Anthony Rendon had a pair of RBI doubles and Matt Adams homered in the second game for Washington.

Cubs 5, Padres 4 — Kyle Schwarber and Anthony Rizzo homered in a fiverun second inning and host Chicago hung on from there to beat San Diego.

Schwarber’s solo homer in the second opened the scoring. Later in the inning, Addison Russell made it 2-0 with a run-scoring single and Rizzo followed with a two-run shot for a 4-0 lead. Heyward capped the five-run burst with an RBI single.

Phillies 8, Marlins 3 — Carlos Santana had three hits, including one of Philadelph­ia’s four homers, and Zach Eflin allowed three runs in eight strong innings in a win over visiting Miami.

Cesar Hernandez, Nick Williams and Asdrubal Cabrera also went deep for the Phillies, who won their fourth straight to move 11⁄2 games ahead of Atlanta for first place in the NL East.

Mets 3, Braves 0 — Kevin Gausman was outpitched in his Braves debut by a blossoming Zack Wheeler, and host New York stopped Atlanta’s five-game winning streak.

Rookie second baseman Jeff McNeil went 4-for-4, and Austin Jackson had an RBI infield single as the Mets halted a four-game skid.

Brewers 8, Rockies 4 — Travis Shaw hit a grand slam during a six-run first inning, and host Milwaukee beat Colorado.

Milwaukee won for the fourth time in six games to stay one back of the NL Central-leading Cubs. Rookie Freddy Peralta pitched six effective innings in his second win over Colorado this season.

Cardinals 8, Pirates 4 — Jedd Gyorko drove in three runs while Kolten Wong, just off the disabled list, and Yadier Molina both had three hits to lead visiting St. Louis to a victory over Pittsburgh.

Gyorko hit a pair of doubles, including a tiebreakin­g one in the fifth inning.
