Call for transparency

-

I would like to preface this letter by saying I wish Commissioner Gross the best and I think he will make a great commissioner. I liked his four main action points, but I might have adjusted the numerical order. These are goals I would like to see achieved. I am a huge supporter of all police, even while I know there are few bad apples in every profession. The far left has been touting the allpolice-are-bad theory, and that has played a role in the rash of cop killings this year.

I am a little concerned today, after I read the “Let them do their job” article. The commissioner, in response to a question regarding the assault on two police officers in the Dewitt Center and the refusal to allow two other officers to help stop the attack by an armed teen, is quoted as saying, “That situation is handled.” If that is what he said, I believe this to be in conflict with his third point of being transparent.

It seems to me that this could be a cover-up to protect someone who broke the law by interfering with a police action that risked the lives of two officers. It also is in conflict with his fourth point of “officer wellness.” I would like to know why police action was not taken. I believe that with no price being paid, it tells others that it is OK to interfere with police doing their job. I note the Falmouth PD officer being shot while two relatives interfered with the officers. They were charged with a crime, as they should have.

I hope this is just a misstep on day one, but I would like to know what was done. It is time that our leaders do all they can to protect the individuals who put their life on the line daily.
