Moulton: Not planning for 2020 prez run
Despite speculation driven in part by increased involvement in 2018 congressional races nationally and endorsements from military leaders, U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton says he’s not planning a run for president in 2020. Moulton (D-Salem) told the Herald yesterday that he’s simply focused on winning back the house.
His comments came following a town hall meeting in Wakefield, where he took questions on topics that ranged from Medicare to immigration.
“Look, I’m not planning to run for president in 2020,” Moulton said. “I’m completely focused on 2018, where I think we have to win back the House to restore some balance in Washington and to put a check on this president.
“And if you look at everything I’m doing,” he continued, “from traveling around the country, the candidates I’m endorsing, the races I’m getting involved with, the time I’m spending both here and at home ... is all to make sure we win in November.”
Moulton appeared on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” Friday and said his Republican colleagues in Congress lacked the “courage,” to stand up to President Trump.
“The job of Congress is to stand up to the president and the White House when they’re trampling over our constitution,” Moulton said. “I believe that my Republican colleagues know that he’s doing this. I hear it from them in private, but they won’t say it in public. So, they know what’s going on, they just don’t have the courage to say anything about it to stop it.”
