Giants’ top pick strains hamstring

The New York Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley was injured with a left hamstring strain during practice yesterday. The No. 2 overall draft pick caught a swing pass out of the backfield and was hurt either stretching to make the catch or running after the catch.

Barkley favored the leg as he got back up after the play. He eventually put his hands on his knees and then went to the turf and lay on his back while the training staff examined him.

Barkley, the former Penn State star, finished his first preseason game last week with five carries for 43 yards. The team was uncertain whether he will play in the preseason game Friday night against the Lions

RB Morris to join Niners

Alfred Morris is joining the San Francisco 49ers’ injury-depleted running back corps. The 29-year-old Morris rushed for 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns as a rookie with Washington in 2012, when current Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinato­r for the Redskins . . . .

Roquan Smith’s holdout is nearing an end. The rookie linebacker’s representa­tives and the Chicago Bears are finalizing details of his contract, according to multiple sources . . . .

Former University of Tennessee star linebacker A.J. Johnson is getting a shot in the NFL with the Broncos less than a month after he was acquitted along with a college teammate of aggravated rape charges. Johnson and Michael Williams were acquitted of all counts July 27..

Ex-girlfriend sues McCoy

LeSean McCoy’s ex-girlfriend is suing the Buffalo Bills running back for failing to protect her after she was bloodied, beaten and had $133,000 worth of jewelry stolen during a home invasion last month at a house owned by McCoy. Delicia Cordon’s face was bloodied during the assault on July 10. Police in Milton, Ga., are still investigat­ing.

Stadium delay at Tottenham

NFL games will be played at Wembley Stadium on three consecutiv­e weekends because the new home being built for English Premier League club Tottenham won’t be ready to host the Seattle-Oakland game Oct. 14. The game will move to Wembley, which will stage games between the Titans and Chargers (Oct.21) and Eagles and Jaguars (Oct. 28).
