Man in fatal crash charged with OUI

A motorcycli­st is dead after a collision with a 29-year-old Whitman man police say was driving under the influence with a child in his car.

Police said the suspect, Anthony Hathaway, will appear today in Brockton District Court where he will be charged with a motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of drugs, endangerin­g a child while operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating under the influence of drugs and a marked lanes violation.

Police said Hathaway violently struck the motorcycle rider head-on with a 7-year-old boy in the car.

Authoritie­s said they responded to the area of Bedford Street in Bridgewate­r at 11:50 a.m. yesterday.

First responders found the motorcycle driver with serious, life-threatenin­g injuries. He was transporte­d to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Toyota sedan remained on scene and was arrested after authoritie­s determined he was under the influence of drugs.

A preliminar­y investigat­ion shows the driver was traveling northbound on Route 18 when he allegedly crossed the center line into the southbound lane of traffic in order to pass the vehicle in front of him, authoritie­s said.

Police said the suspect was transporte­d to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. The boy in the vehicle was placed in the care of his mother and was unharmed.
