Two men pulled from plane after crash in Hanson
Two men were pulled out of a small plane 15 minutes after it went down on the edge of a lake in Hanson yesterday, an uncle of the victims and local authorities said.
Both men were taken by helicopter to Boston hospitals, said Hanson Deputy Fire Chief Robert O’Brien.
O’Brien said his department received a call about the plane crash at 4:15 p.m. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
“We did find a single-engine plane at the edge of the water in the mud with two occupants on board,” O’Brien said. “There was significant damage to the front of the plane but that was all we saw.”
Police Sgt. Peter Daley said federal aviation officials are looking into whether the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the crash.
Worried about the condition of his two nephews, Hanson resident Don Conway said he drove up to Cranland Airport, off Monponsett Road, last night to get answers.
“I was at work, my brother called me an hour ago, so I tried to jump on the news to get an update and I didn’t hear so I ran out here to see what I can learn,” Conway said.
According to Conway, his nephews were returning to Hanson after spreading the ashes of their father, who died two weeks ago from cancer.
Hanson authorities did confirm pulling two men from a single-engine plane that crashed in Chandler Millpond, but didn’t not identify the two men.
Conway said one is a partowner of the single engine plane that was damaged in the crash and has flown Blackhawk helicopters for the Army.
