Three Jets LBs fined $20K

Jets linebacker­s Jordan Jenkins, Darron Lee and Frankie Luvu were each fined $20,054 by the NFL for illegal hits in New York’s preseason game at Washington last week.

Jenkins and Luvu were both docked for roughing the passer, while Lee was fined for a horse-collar tackle in the Jets’ 15-13 loss last Thursday.

Minnesota linebacker Antwione Williams was also fined $20,054 for a roughing-the-passer penalty after his hit on Jacksonvil­le quarterbac­k Cody Kessler in the Vikings’ 14-10 loss.

Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue was docked $13,369 for an unsportsma­nlike conduct penalty after sacking the Vikings’ Kirk Cousins in the first quarter . ...

Ravens first-round pick Hayden Hurst could be sidelined 3-4 weeks after undergoing a procedure to fix a stress fracture in his foot, the NFL Network reported . . . .

Browns starting quarterbac­k Tyrod Taylor is not expected to miss any time after dislocatin­g his left pinky and bruising his hand in Thursday’s win over Philadelph­ia . . . .

The Jets signed former Chiefs running back Charcandri­ck West, who was waived by Kansas City two days ago.

Motorsport­s: Rules changes

NASCAR is changing rules for Xfinity and trucks races next season, saying it will strengthen competitio­n and more clearly define each series. In the Xfinity Series, the maximum starting field will be reduced by two cars to 38 beginning in 2019. NASCAR says it will reallocate the purse money previously awarded to 39th- and 40th-place finishers to the rest of the field.

Another change involves how points are awarded in the owner championsh­ip race for the Xfinity and trucks series. Car owners will only earn points in the championsh­ip race if the driver is an Xfinity or Trucks Series regular . . . .

IndyCar said Canadian driver Robert Wickens underwent surgery this week on his right arm and lower extremitie­s and tests found no additional injuries from his crash at Pocono last weekend.

Colleges: Meyer tweets

Amid withering criticism of his failing to more directly address domestic abuse issues at a news conference earlier this week, suspended coach Urban Meyer issued an apology to the ex-wife of a former assistant coach who was suspected of abusing her. Meyer, who is serving a three-game suspension for his handling of abuse allegation­s and other misdeeds from former receivers coach Zach Smith, was criticized because he declined to address Courtney Smith during a question-and-answer session with reporters on Wednesday night . . . .

Nebraska running back Tre Bryant, who ran for more than 100 yards in each of his two games last season, is giving up football because of chronic knee pain . . . .

Rutgers announced true freshman Artur Sitkowski will start at quarterbac­k to open the season against Texas State . ...

Iowa State football suspended four freshmen indefinite­ly for “multiple incidents of poor choices and behavior.” The players are Tayvonn Kyle, Jaeveyon Morton, Joseph Scates and Dallas Taylor-Cortez.

Misc.: Lloris DUI charge

France’s World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris was charged with drunken driving in London, and he apologized for setting a bad example with “unacceptab­le” behavior. The Tottenham goalkeeper was stopped following a routine patrol in the Marylebone district, police said. Lloris was released on bail and is due to appear at Westminste­r Magistrate­s’ Court next month . ...

Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus upset fifth-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the semifinals of the Connecticu­t Open, the final WTA tuneup before the U.S. Open in New Haven, Conn.
