PLAYERS TO WATCH AHEAD OF

- By KEITH PEARSON

TIGER WOODS

Age: 42 | World Rank: 26 | FedEx Cup Rank: 25 Last Year: DNP | Best: Won (2006)

With five top-10s out of 15 starts including a runner-up showing at the PGA Championship three weeks ago, the comeback tour for Woods has been a smash success in all but one category – not finding the winner's circle. This will be the fifth time he plays in consecutive weeks, he's been in the top 12 each time. It is his first time at TPC Boston since 2013, but he won in 2006 and has two seconds and a third among his nine appearances.

ADAM SCOTT

Age: 38 | World Rank: 38

FedEx Cup Rank: 40 | Last Year: Cut Best: Won (2003)

A couple of top-5 finishes this month — at the PGA and last week — have the Australian as a trendy pick once again. He fits the “horse for a course”-type as the inaugural champion has six top-10s among his 13 starts here. Scott certainly has something to fight for as he tries to secure a place inside the top 30 for the Tour Championship. His 150th spot in strokes gained putting is a concern.

BRYSON DECHAMBEAU

Age: 24 | World Rank: 12 | FedEx Cup Rank: 1

Last Year: T30 | Best: T30 (2017)

Two wins this year including a 4-stroke rout last week has the game's mad professor in a good place. He is among the group hoping to secure a spot at the Ryder Cup this week so don't expect a hangover coming off last week. One of the bombers on tour, DeChambeau said he enjoys the risk-reward style to the course. He had a solid start in his TPC Boston debut a year ago with 69-67 on Friday and Saturday before closing with 72-73.

JUSTIN THOMAS

Age: 25 | World Rank: 3 | FedEx Cup Rank: 3 Last Year: Won | Best: Won (2017)

The defending FedEx Cup champion has put together another outstanding season with three wins and been inside the top 25 in 17 of 20 starts, getting inside the top 10 nine times. He is second in total shots gained and 10th in driving distance. He has been on a solid run this month: winning at Firestone, grabbing a T6 at the PGA Championship and a T8 last week.

DUSTIN JOHNSON

Age: 34 | World Rank: 1 | FedEx Cup Rank: 2 Last Year: T18 | Best: T4 (2009, 2012) He fell out of the top spot in the standings because of the quadrupled points for last week, when he was T11. He leads the tour in strokes gained off the tee, tee-to-green and total. Johnson alternated good rounds with bad rounds last year with 66s on Friday and Sunday offset by a 72 on Saturday and 73 on Monday. In 17 starts this year, he has three wins (most recently the Canadian Open in late July) and 10 top-10s.
