Lowell police searching for two assault suspects

Police are searching for two men they say broke into a Fifth Avenue home in Lowell early yesterday morning and assaulted its elderly residents.

According to Capt. Paul Laferriere, police responded to a report of a breaking and entering at a residence about 3:40 a.m.

The victims, an elderly brother and sister, told police they were awoken and assaulted by two men demanding money. The residents both appeared to have minor injuries from the incident and were transported to a local hospital, Laferriere said.

The suspects, who were dressed in black and wore face masks, fled out the front door without taking any money.

A search of the area by Lowell police and a state police K-9 unit did not turn up any results.

Police believe the suspects gained entry to the home by breaking a front porch screen window and entering an inner door the victims had left open for fresh air.

The elderly siblings’ vehicle, a blue 2007 Infiniti, was stolen and later recovered at an undisclosed location. The Lowell Police Criminal Bureau is processing the vehicle for evidence.
