SLATE’S ‘HOUSE’ FOR SALE

-

Following Jenny Slate’s return to town for her sister’s wedding last weekend, the actress has revealed that her parents are putting her childhood home on the market. And, as loyal fans may remember, the Milton property has its place in local literary history.

“Hello it is 6:45AM. This is the air and light in my bedroom window,” she captioned a video she shared on social media. “My parents are selling this house where I grew up. This is the air and light in the window that is still mine. It is a heartache to move on from this place, but that’s natural.”

While the home is undoubtedly filled with priceless memories for Slate, it also holds value as the subject of a book she coauthored. In 2016, she and her father, poet and essayist Ron Slate, wrote “About the House,” an anthology whose short stories, poems and essays all shed light on the family, their residence and the upbringing that shaped the comedian into the talent she is today. The book was published by Concord Free Press, which gives free copies of works to readers, in exchange for donations made to their favorite charities.

The dwelling, a colonial built in 1898, has also garnered fame on a more … spiritual level. During a 2014 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Slate claimed that she “grew up in a genuine haunted house” and told the talk show host that her father saw the ghost of a sea captain atop the stairs shortly after moving in. Slate has mentioned the supernatural aspects of the abode in several other interviews and they, of course, got a shout-out in “About the House.”
