Smith, Reid carry Needham

Matt Smith had 10 catches for 153 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Reid rushed the ball 20 times for 79 yards and two scores as No.12 Needham (3-0) cruised to a 38-7 victory over Newton North in a Bay State Conference crossover contest yesterday.

In other BSC crossover action, Billy Silvia ran for one score and forced a pair of turnovers on defense as No. 9 Braintree (3-0) outscored Framingham, 46-28 . . . . Mark Barrett threw for three scores and ran for a fourth as Brookline (2-1) edged Weymouth, 27-24.

Ryan Kelleher completed 17of-21 passes for 271 yards and two scores, both going to Luke D’Aloia, as Hopkinton (2-1) defeated Norwood, 28-6, in the Tri-Valley Large.

Nick Raneri threw a pair of touchdown passes to Ryan Gaumond and Brendan McHugh ran for two more scores as North Attleboro (2-1) defeated Sharon, 42-14, in the Hockomock Davenport.

Ryan Halliday rushed for 120 yards and the game’s only touchdown, while Cole Baker booted a pair of field goals as No. 15-ranked King Philip (2-1) relied on a strong defensive effort to knock off Attleboro, 122, in a Hockomock Kelley-Rex battle.

In Northeaste­rn Conference Tier 3 action, Marvens Jean ripped off a 75-yard scoring run and Mason Nikolas threw a 55-yard TD pass to Christian Correia as Saugus (1-2) handled Salem, 14-0, giving interim coach Mike Mabee his first varsity win.

Dylan Cann rushed for a career-high 302 yards and four touchdowns as Austin Prep (12) picked up its first win of the year, 36-0, over Matignon/St. Joseph’s in the Catholic Central Small.

Two Juzary Salim rushing touchdowns proved to be the difference as Upper Cape (21) upended South Shore, 21-14, in a Mayflower Athletic Small contest . . . . Jermaine Rivera’s 50-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter was the game’s only score as Cape Cod Tech (12) defeated Old Colony, 8-0.

John Roberts’ 1-yard touchdown run with 34.2 seconds left gave No. 3 Duxbury (3-0) a hard-fought 12-6 win over

Plymouth North in a Patriot Keenan contest. Roberts threw for 110 yards and also added 54 rushing yards.

Devin Lambert completed 18-of-29 passes for 236 yards and two scores as Dracut (2-0) handled Chelmsford, 37-0, in a Merrimack Valley Small contest. Cam McCullough caught eight passes for 126 yards and a score, while Jakob Rivers added a game-opening 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Ricky Brutus ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns, while catching a game-winning 16-yard touchdown pass from Connor Bryant with 26 seconds left as Methuen (3-0) rallied from a 28-14 halftime deficit to defeat Lowell, 35-28, in an Merrimack Valley Conference Large game.

Kevin Peete ran for 245 yards and three scores as Melrose (21) defeated Watertown, 28-13, in the Middlesex Freedom.

Ben Yanakakis threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third as part of a 28-point first quarter as Ipswich (3-0) rolled to a 49-6 win over Triton in a Cape Ann League crossover contest.

Noah Ferrer scored the game-winner with two minutes to spare as Wilmington (13-3) earned a 2-1 victory over nonleague opponent Beverly.

Field hockey

In a nonleague game, Abby Marchand scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead Martha’s Vineyard (4-2) past Dighton-Rehoboth, 3-0.
