FAVORITE THING: OPRAH IN LOWELL
Add this to our list of favorite things for this year: The one and only Oprah Winfrey will be making her way to Middlesex County this fall.
The worldwide media phenomenon and philanthropist will be taking the stage at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Nov. 15, but this time, she’ll be on the other side of the interview.
“A Conversation with Oprah Winfrey,” the latest installment of the UMass Lowell Chancellor’s Speaker Series, will have Oprah sitting down and dishing during a conversation with UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacquie Moloney at 7 p.m. at the school’s Tsongas Center.
The school’s speaker series, which has previously welcomed Stephen King and Meryl Streep to campus, highlights the world’s top achievers for the UMass community, and boy, did they go straight to the top this time.
As if anyone needs a synopsis of Oprah’s colossal career, her claim to fame includes: her award-winning talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which she hosted for a quarter of a decade, and the rest of her expansive media empire, including OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, O magazine and Harpo Productions; her roles in films such as HBO’s “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” Disney’s “Wrinkle in Time,” and “The Color Purple,” which earned her an Oscar nomination; and her philanthropic work, such as backing the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, as well as building a school in South Africa and supporting the education of underprivileged girls throughout the country.
Tickets for this epic event will first be made available to UMass Lowell students, faculty and alumni beginning Friday at 10 a.m. The public will then have a chance to reserve spots starting Monday at 10 a.m. You can find further details about pricing and restrictions through the Tsongas Center.
We highly suggest that you bring your A-game to the box office, so that you get a ticket, and you get a ticket. and you get a ticket.
