Perry out five months

-

Anaheim Ducks right winger Corey Perry is likely to be out for five months after undergoing surgery on his right knee.

Ducks general manager Bob Murray says the 2011 NHL Most Valuable Player had surgery yesterday. The 33-year-old Perry injured the knee during warmups for the Ducks’ preseason game on Monday. He didn’t play and had surgery to repair his meniscus and a knee ligament, Murray says.

Recovery time for the surgery is typically at least 20 weeks.

Perry has been durable: He hasn’t missed more than 15 games in any season, and has played in at least 80 games seven times. Perry missed 11 games with a lower-body injury last season.

Perry scored 50 goals during his MVP season, and had 17 goals and 32 assists last year. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist for Canada. He also won the 2007 Stanley Cup with the Ducks, his only NHL team.

• The Tampa Bay Lightning announced on Twitter that right winger Nikita Kucherov suffered “a lower body injury” in Tuesday night’s preseason game against the Florida Panthers. No additional information was released. Kucherov recorded 100 points (39 goals and 61 assists) in 80 games last season.

• Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones will be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a knee injury. The team says the 23-year-old Jones sprained his knee during the second period of Tuesday’s preseason game against Buffalo. An MRI yesterday revealed the sprain.

It’s a huge blow for the Blue Jackets, with Jones’ defensive line mate Zach Werenski recovering from a shoulder injury and defenseman Ryan Murray also hampered by an injury. Jones was a valuable contributor last season with 16 goals and 41 assists.
