Flawed Biden shows Dems’ lack of depth

- Peter LUCAS

In politics, absurdity is not a handicap. Just ask Joe Biden.

That is an observation accredited to Napoleon, the French general who became an emperor. It also applies to Joe Biden, an empty suit who wants to become president. Being an absurdity has not harmed Joe Biden, 76, though.

Right now, the former vice president under Barack Obama is considered — at least by Democrats — to be a possible candidate for president. Biden is one of some 20 to 25 Democrats who are considering running for the party’s nomination in the misguided belief that President Trump can be defeated when he seeks re-election in 2020. At the rate the economy has taken off, Trump will be reelected in a landslide, no matter who the leaderless Democrats nominate.

A 2020 presidential candidacy by Biden would represent his third try for the presidency. He might have done better in his two previous attempts had he not been caught plagiarizing the remarks of others, as he did in 1988, or had he refrained from uttering dumb comments as he did in 2008.

In the first case, Biden’s presidential candidacy fell apart when advisers to Gov. Michael Dukakis, the eventual Democrat nominee, leaked evidence that Biden had lifted his rags-to-riches stump speech from British Labor Leader Neil Kinnock.

In the second case, Biden, as wordy a U.S. senator as you will find, simply talked himself into defeat in the 2008 race by saying stupid things. For instance, he bragged about his support from Indian-Americans in Delaware by saying, “You cannot go into a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.” About rival U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, who won the nomination, Biden said, “I mean, you’ve got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean that’s a storybook, man.” Nevertheless, Obama named Biden as his running mate and Biden served as vice president for eight years.

That, combined with his years in the U.S. Senate, means that Biden has been on the government payroll for 42 years. He is one of those Washington establishment politicians who enter politics with modest means, like Obama, or John Kerry, and leaves as a multimillionaire. While left-leaning Democrats — socialists, really — like Biden, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders talk about open borders, free college tuition and free health care, they end up rich while everybody else is left holding the bag. Can you say Venezuela?

And in the end, they have nothing but disdain for fellow citizens who do not agree with them. Witness Biden’s latest absurd speech at the Washington annual meeting of the Human Rights Campaign, where he held half of America — the half that supports President Trump — in contempt. To Biden, these fellow American are “the dregs of society.” Biden said, “This time they, not you, have an ally in the White House. … They’re a small percentage of the American people — virulent people, some of them the dregs of society.”

When the dust settled in the 2016 presidential election, 62,979,636 Americans voted for Donald Trump, which gave him the Electoral College victory. Hillary received 65,844,610 votes. Someone should ask Biden how many of those 62.9 million Trump voters, or almost half the voters in the country, are “the dregs of society.” Biden’s dumb remarks mirrors what Hillary Clinton said about Trump voters during the last campaign. She called them “a basket of deplorables.” Who are these politicians anyway?

And where do they get off insulting fellow Americans, the very Americans with real jobs and who pay people like Biden and Hillary Clinton, who have lived off the taxpayers all their lives? What have either of these taxpayer-financed millionaires done for the country, except live off it?

Hillary Clinton gave us the disaster and cover-up of Benghazi and the needless and shameful death of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. Biden, who never served in the military, voted to go to war in Iraq. And both used their public office to get rich. And we’re the dregs?
