Shemar, 6, likes Legos, superheroes

- Who can adopt?

Shemar is an adorable 6-yearold boy of Caucasian and AfricanAmerican descent. Active and busy, Shemar likes to play outside on his bike and his scooter. He also likes to read, play with Legos and superhero figures, color and watch movies.

He gets along well with everyone in his foster family, including his foster dad, foster mom and three foster siblings. He needs clear expectations and limits and can easily follow a routine.

In the first grade, Shemar does well in school with the help of a sticker chart. He gets along well with his teachers and with his school peers.

Freed for adoption, Shemar would do well in any family constellation, with or without other children in the home. The ideal family will need to keep him active and loved and provide him with a structured home with clear routines and limits. He has siblings with whom he would like to maintain contact. Right now, they visit Shemar monthly.

Who can adopt?

Can you provide the guidance, love and stability that a child needs? If you’re at least 18 years old, have a stable source of income and room in your heart, you may be a perfect match to adopt a waiting child. Adoptive parents can be single, married or partnered; experienced or not; renters or homeowners; LGBTQ singles and couples.

The process to adopt a child from foster care requires training, interviews and home visits to determine if adoption is right for you, and if so, to help connect you with a child or sibling group that will be a good match for your family.

To learn more about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange at 617-542-3678 or go to mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have “a permanent place to call home.”
