Cyr rushes to judgment

Senior’s 3 touchdowns push BB&N over Hill

- By BRENDAN CONNELLY

Zachary Cyr entered his senior season expecting to carry the bulk of the load for Buckingham Browne & Nichols, both on the field and off.

Yesterday, the bell-cow running back powered his way to an- other stellar performance, bringing across three touchdowns on the ground as BB&N erupted for a 3824 victory over visiting Belmont Hill at Nichols Field.

“On the ground, everything starts with the line,” Cyr said. “They got a big push every play. I always stay faithful with that line in front of me. Never worried.” The Knights (2-0) combined for 275 total rushing yards en route to a statement ISL victory, even though Belmont Hill remained tough to shake until the fourth quarter.

Up 17-10 after three, BB&N chewed seven minutes off the clock with its ground game. Cyr finished the drive with his third touchdown on a 5-yard run to give the Knights a 24-10 lead with 2:55 remaining.

“Coach (Mike) Willey has trust in me,” Cyr said. “That’s why he has me in there to finish things, and make sure everything is completed the right way. The big thing about our team is having faith in each other.”

Matthew Bulman added a short rushing touchdown and capped the victory with a 66-yard interception return for a score.

Christopher Chen was 5-for-5 on extra points and booted a 45-yard field goal for BB&N.

Belmont Hill (1-1) was led by senior Justin O’NeilRiley, who hauled in a pair of touchdown tosses from Michael Piazza.

“Right now, we are going to enjoy this one,” Willey said. “This is a big one. They’re a good football team. Belmont Hill is a well coached football team, and this is a good win. So we’re going to enjoy this one today, but then we’ll settle up and get geared up for next week.”
