A homeless woman is accused of assaulting and threatening a black woman while dressed in a President Trump mask.

Rosemarie Finch, 41, was arraigned yesterday morning in a Somerville court on charges from an incident that police say was racially motivated. Finch was charged with assault and battery with intent to intimidate based on race, civil rights violation, accessory before the fact and attempting to commit a crime.

Police reports state that officers were dispatched to Davis Square on Sept. 22 for a drunk woman wearing a Trump mask yelling racial slurs at a black bystander. Finch, accompanied by two men, was yelling at the victim about the “importance of the white vote … the superiority of white people,” to “get out of my country” and pulled the victim’s hair while yelling racial slurs at her, according to reports.

The victim asked some nearby men for protection, and Finch and her accomplice started yelling at the men calling them homophobic slurs and attempting to start a fight, witnesses told police. Reports stated that they found the victim being sheltered from Finch by several people when officers arrived on scene.

Finch told officers she did nothing wrong and repeatedly told them it wasn’t illegal to wear a Trump mask. She also said that the victim was calling her a cracker.

Several witnesses confirmed the victim’s story, telling officers the victim attempted to walk away, but Finch continued to follow and yell threats.

Finch was arraigned in court yesterday where she was released on a $250 bail. She is set to appear in court again next month.
