Seidl right on target for St. Seb’s

- By MATT FELD

Billy Seidl may be headed to Duke for his pitching arm, but last night he showed his talents with his legs.

Seidl ran for 162 yards and amassed three touchdowns while St. Sebastian’s did not allow a touchdown for the third straight week as the host Arrows defeated Buckingham, Browne & Nichols, 23-3, in a special night game with temporary lights in Needham.

With Northwesternbound back Bryce Gallagher leading the way, Seidl used his quickness and vision from out of the spread to torment the Knights defensive line all night long.

“I was getting some great blocks from my linemen and then it was great having Bryce lead the way,” said Seidl. “I don’t normally run like that, but I just found holes and it was awesome.”

Defensively, St. Sebastian’s (3-0) was suffocating from the opening kickoff. The Arrows finished with four sacks and forced a pair of turnovers, including an interception by Gallagher, and a safety. They held BB&N to just 121 total yards for the game.

“I knew BB&N was bigger and more physical but I thought we were quicker,” said St. Seb’s coach Bob Souza. “They are a good team, but I just thought our kids forced them out of their game.”

Trailing 14-3 to begin the second half, BB&N thought it had changed momentum when Anthony LaMonica came down with an interception at the Warriors’ 2-yard line. On the second play from scrimmage, however, Arrows defensive tackle Steve Jessup broke through for a sack resulting in a safety and a 16-3 St. Seb’s lead.

Following the free kick, Seidl put the game out of reach. On third-and-5, Seidl received the snap, found a burst of speed through the tackles and took off down the far sideline for a 27yard touchdown run to give the Arrows a 23-3 advantage.
