Sixteen’s sweet: Bello helps beat Revs

-

Sixteen-year-old George Bello scored his first professional goal and Atlanta United stayed in front of the Supporters’ Shield race with a 2-1 victory over the Revolution yesterday in Atlanta.

Bello opened the scoring in the 17th minute, settling Leandro Gonzalez Pirez’ pass along the left wing and finishing with a low, hard left-footed shot. Bello became the sixth-youngest player to score an MLS goal at 16 years, 257 days.

Julian Gressel made it 2-0 for Atlanta United (20-6-6) in the 52nd minute.

Juan Agudelo scored in the 92nd minute for the Revs (8-12-11), who were all but eliminated from playoff contention — eight points behind the sixth-place Montreal Impact with three games to go . . . .

Cristiano Ronaldo’s form doesn’t appear affected by a lawsuit accusing him of rape. Ronaldo scored Juventus’ second goal in a 2-0 win at Udinese to extend the Bianconeri’s perfect start in Serie A.

Immediately after scoring, Ronaldo signaled for his teammates to give him some space so he could go celebrate in front of a TV camera, leaping into the air with an emphatic double fist pump.

The goal was met by a mix of applause and boos inside Dacia Arena . . . .

Three goals in the last 20 minutes by Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez earned host Manchester United its first English Premier League win since the opening day as it rallied from 2-0 down to beat Newcastle 3-2 in a thriller.

Kevin Tway was second at 13-under after a 68. Sungjae Im (69) was 12-under, and Bill Haas (67) followed at 11-under . . . .

Two-time defending champion Tyrrell Hatton shot a 6-under-par 66 in the third round at St. Andrews, one of three courses being used at the Dunhill Links Championship, to open a 1-stroke lead with a 14-under total of 202. Marcus Fraser of Australia was his nearest challenger after a 67 at Kingsbarns . . . .

Strong winds and heavy rain from Typhoon Kong-rey hit the Korean peninsula, ensuring that there would be no play on day three of the eight-nation UL International Crown event in Incheon.

The defending champion United States led Pool B at the end of the second round with six points.

Bell tolls at Dover

Christopher Bell has a second straight NASCAR championship in sight. Bell won his sixth Xfinity Series race this season in the playoff race at Dover International Speedway, setting the rookie record for victories in a season.

He passed three drivers for most rookie wins: Greg Biffle won five races in 2001, as did Kyle Busch in 2004 and Carl Edwards in 2005 . . . .

Rookie Lonnie Walker IV of the San Antonio Spurs needs knee surgery and will miss the start of the regular season.
