SIDETRACK

-

IT’S NOT OVER… Until Daughtry sings. The band — including its namesake singer and former “American Idol” finalist, Chris Daughtry

— made waves at the Boston Harbor Hotel this weekend. The group took to the waterfront rotunda to perform a set comprising hits, including “Home,” to a flood of Mix 104.1 fans, as part of the radio station's Mix Lounge.

REPORTING FOR DUTY: Steve Horgan, aka the “bullpen cop,” is checking off some major Fenway feats from his bucket list before his impending retirement. The Boston police officer, who's become an enthusiastic staple at home games from all the years of doing detail duty for the Red Sox, was honored for his service at the ballpark and got to throw out the first pitch prior to Game 2 on Saturday night.

HOW THE TURNTABLES: To you, he may just be Steve Carell. But to “Office” superfans everywhere, the part-time Marshfield resident could be considered a destroyer of dreams. Amidst ongoing chatter about rebooting the NBC sitcom, Carell is making it ever-so clear that he wants nothing to do with reprising the role of Michael Scott — never has, never will. “I've never thought of it as a good idea,” the actor recently told Time magazine. “I think it existed in that time and with those people, and it felt right. There was something so special about it, and I guess it's an odd way to put it, but I love it too much to ever want to do it again. It's too special to me in my heart in that period of time.” Of course, Carell's career is also long departed from his comedic roots, having taken a turn for the serious after playing the obnoxious, over-the-top Dunder Mifflin boss for seven seasons of “The Office.” Case in point: He's currently making the rounds to promote his new, heart-wrenching film, “Beautiful Boy,” where he stars alongside Timothee Chalamet.
