Edward Kerr, former operating engineer, of South Weymouth

Edward E. Kerr of South Weymouth, formerly of Manhattan, N.Y., died Thursday.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He received a Bronze Star Service Award for his time overseas.

Mr. Kerr worked as an operating engineer with Local 15 in New York City for over 50 years.

He was a member of the Weymouth Elks and was a longtime parishione­r of St. Francis Xavier Church.

He enjoyed travel, especially wintering in Florida, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Husband of the late Dorothy (O’Hara), he is survived by four daughters, Roseann McNamara of Canton, Dori Hughes of Hanover, Helen Grupe of New York and Phyllis Ferro of New Jersey; a brother, James of New York; seven grandsons; two granddaugh­ters; a great-grandson and a great-granddaugh­ter.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth.

Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.

Carolyn Walker, at 87, Melrose resident was mother of seven

Carolyn G. (Williams) Walker of Melrose died Sept. 26 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was 87.

She was born in Arlington and was raised in Medford.

She attended Lincoln Elementary and Lincoln Junior High schools and graduated from Medford High School in 1948.

Mrs. Walker worked in the garment industry before marriage.

She went on to raise seven children and returned to the workforce at Century Bank for over 20 years.

Mrs. Walker enjoyed dancing, taking cruises with her husband and going out to lunch with friends.

She also enjoyed going to all local diners, restaurant­s and bakeries in the Melrose and surroundin­g area.

She loved big band music, listening to old radio shows, going shopping at all the local stores in the area and cooking.

Mrs. Walker also loved taking trips to Wells, Ogunquit and York, all in Maine.

Wife of the late Robert M. for 52 years, she is survived by five children, seven grandchild­ren and many nieces and nephews. Services were private. Arrangemen­ts by Gately Funeral Home, Melrose.

Scott Wilson, ‘In Cold Blood’ and ‘Walking Dead’ actor

Scott Wilson, who played the murderer Richard Hickock in 1967’s “In Cold Blood” and was a series regular on “The Walking Dead,” has died. He was 76.

AMC, the show’s network, announced Mr. Wilson’s death Saturday. The network called Mr. Wilson’s character on “The Walking Dead,” veterinari­an Hershel Greene, “the emotional core of the show.”

Mr. Wilson starred on the series from 2011 to 2014. His return for the upcoming season was announced just hours earlier on Saturday. Mr. Wilson already filmed his scenes for season nine.

In the same year as Mr. Wilson’s breakthrou­gh in “In Cold Blood,” he also played murder suspect Harvey Oberst in “In the Heat of the Night.”

He appeared in 1974’s “The Great Gatsby” as George Wilson, in “The Right Stuff ” as pilot Scott Crossfield and earned a Golden Globe nomination in 1980 for his performanc­e in “The Ninth Configurat­ion,” in which he played a former astronaut.
