I LIKE IT: SOX IN CARDI B’S BLOOD
They call her “Cardi Bardi, banging body, spicy mami, hot tamale” — but they better not call Cardi B a fair-weather fan, specifically when it comes to Boston baseball.
“I know y’all don’t understand, but if y’all know me for a long time, y’all know I always been a Red Sox fan, you know?” the rapper recently said in a rather animated video rant.
“And I’m from Highbridge so I literally live nine blocks away from the Yankee Stadium,” she continued. “But you know, my father, he’s a Red Sox fan. My grandfather’s a Red Sox fan. It runs in my blood. It runs in my blood. Big, Big Papi over here, you heard? Big Papi over here.”
David Ortiz, the Big Papi whom Cardi was referencing, clearly did hear the Bronx native and her allegiance to his old team. The legendary slugger shared her video on Instagram, along with the caption, “That’s my girl Red Sox for life.”
Now, Cardi’s Sox endorsement was met with mixed feelings, particularly from Ortiz’s followers: Some users maintained that the “Bodak Yellow” singer was simply putting on a show and isn’t a true fan of our Fenway fellows; others argued with her stance and tried asserting the Yankees’ superiority; while another share argued that Dominicans —which both Ortiz and Cardi are — have to stick together when it comes to sports.
Time will only tell as to whether Cardi will stick by our team. As our guys continue to take on the Yanks during the American League Division Series this week, she’ll have ample opportunity to flip-flop in her fan feelings.
