It wasn’t locked up until late last night, but the first-year co-op of Boston English/ New Mission is the Boston City League

South champs this season.

Sophomore Luke McDonald recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter as Boston English/New Mission ran out the clock to upend Charlestown, 3628, on the road.

“We knew it was going to be a defensive battle,” said Eagles coach Ryan Conway. “They got a lot of weapons over there in Charlestown. Hats off to them. They didn’t quit and they just kept coming.”

On the night, the Eagles forced four turnovers, including an 80-yard fumble recovery for a score by junior Eric Mack to give them a 22-6 edge midway through the second quarter.

Mack also had three tackles for loss, including a sack in the first half.

A 44-yard interception return by the Eagles’ Raymonte Williams set up a 15yard connection from Michael Castro to Williams for his second score of the contest to make it 28-14.

“(Williams) is one of our captains and is one of our leaders,” Conway said. “He’s someone we can really, really rely on.”

Junior Takahri Hobbs took care of the rest for Boston English/New Mission (6-0), finishing up a 142-yard evening on just 12 carries. Hobbs’ 80-yard TD in the first quarter started the BE/NM scoring.

“I felt like the only team that could beat us is ourselves,” Hobbs said. “It was just about us chopping down the mistakes, getting more disciplined and working hard.”

Charlestown (4-2) got on the board first when Jahwon Ryan ran one in from 36 yards out to make it 6-0. Just before halftime, quarterback Steven Williams Jr. found Jeremiah St. Louis on a 7-yard TD pass to cut the Eagles’ lead to 22-14. It was set up by Terrell McQueeney’s 45-yard kickoff return.

Charlestown’s Amari Forbes also grabbed a 53yard scoring pass from Williams to make it a 2820 game, but the Eagles’ Cameron Brown answered on the next possession with a 2-yard touchdown run to extend their lead to 36-20 midway through the third.

Williams finished off the scoring for the Townies with a 15-yard pass to Chris Michel early in the fourth.
