Quinnipiac skaters keep BC winless

Chase Priskie scored at 17:35 of the first period and Keith Petruzzell­i stopped 21 shots as Quinnipiac (3-0-0) took a 3-0 victory over Boston College (0-3-0) last night in a nonleague hockey game in Hamden, Conn.

Freshman forward Bobby Trivigno posted two goals while sophomore defenseman Cale Makar scored a goal and two assists to help UMass (3-0-0) skate to a 6-3 win over Ohio State (2-10) in Columbus, Ohio.

Sam Knoblauch, Connor Wilson and Kenny Hausinger scored the goals as UMass-Lowell blanked Miami (Ohio), 3-0, in Oxford, Ohio.

Freshman forward Jack Dugan and senior forward Scott Conway each had a goal and two assists to lead Providence to a 7-2 win over UConn in Providence.

Minnesota-Duluth outshot visiting Maine, 46-18, in an 8-2 win. Brady Keeper and Tim Doherty scored for Maine (2-1-0) . . . .

In Ivy League football, Alan Lamar ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns and Yale (4-2, 2-1) took a 23-10 win over Penn (4-2, 1-2) in Philadelph­ia.

NASCAR: Logano on pole

Joey Logano qualified on the pole for tomorrow’s race at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City with a lap of 191.646 mph. Logano heads into the final race before the playoff field is cut from 12 to eight with a 39-point buffer.

Kevin Harvick qualified second, while fellow playoff drivers Aric Almirola, Ryan Blaney and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five. Kyle Busch, who sits between Harvick and Logano in the playoffs, will start sixth. Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr. are on the bubble. Truex, the reigning series champion, will start 12th. Alex Bowman and Kurt Busch rounded out the top 10.

Tennis: Tiebreaker in

That epic 70-68 fifth set at Wimbledon will never be matched or surpassed, or even challenged. The All England Club said yesterday it will introduce final-set tiebreaker­s next year, starting when the score reaches 12-12 in the decider.

The grass-court Grand Slam tournament is the second of the four majors to use a final-set tiebreaker to determine a singles match. The U.S. Open starts its final-set tiebreaker­s at 6-6. At the Australian Open and the French Open, players still have to win by two games in the final set in singles matches.

In 2010, John Isner and Nicolas Mahut played the longest match in tennis history at Wimbledon, taking more than 11 hours stretched over three days before Isner won 70-68 in the final set.

This year, Kevin Anderson defeated Isner, 26-24, in the fifth in the semifinals . ...

U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka was drawn in the same group as Angelique Kerber, Sloane Stephens and Kiki Bertens for her debut appearance at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

Karolina Pliskova, defending champion Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova and Elina Svitolina are in the other group for the end-of-season tournament that starts tomorrow.

Misc.: Keino investigat­ion

Running great Kip Keino denied wrongdoing in the Kenyan Olympic corruption scandal and didn’t appear in court in Nairobi, as expected, with prosecutor­s given more time to investigat­e if he was involved in the misuse of more than $545,000 . . . .

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Joe Musgrove had abdominal surgery but is expected to be ready for spring training. The 25-yearold righthande­r was 6-9 with a 4.06 ERA in 19 starts.
