GETTING READY FOR THE SERIES

Fenway eateries, bars stocking up

- By KATHLEEN MCKIERNAN

Fenway bars and restaurants are stocking up for the World Series next week, loading up on extra Bud Light and Sam Adams beers, Reuben sandwiches, hot dogs and pizza dough. Stocking shelves and ordering all hands on deck for the big ball games has become largely a Fenway tradition for the local watering holes — one they have begun to expect each year. On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox will face either the L.A. Dodgers or the Milwaukee Brewers at Fenway Park in the World Series. “I can’t wait. I love baseball,” said Jeremy Garside, 32, a manager at Lansdowne Pub. “It’s a blast. The atmosphere is great. The room is always busy. Everyone is so fired up watching the game.” The Lansdowne Pub has already stocked up for beer with some 200 cases of Bud Light ready for Tuesday night. “We had already ordered a ton of product for today and tomorrow because there were potentially games,” Garside said. “The Sam Adams product will move fast. It’s all hands on deck for the playoffs.” The Bleacher Bar also ordered a couple of hundred extra cases of Bud Light, Sam Adams and Harpoon — baseball fan favorites, says manager Charles Gunter, 27. Reuben sandwiches and hot dogs are also game staples. “We make sure we have the home stuff ready,” Gunter said. “I’m pumped. Glad to be back in the World Series. It’s electrifying. The fans are great. You share a great experience with people.” Sal’s Pizza on Brookline Avenue is also bringing in some 70 bins of dough — more than the typical 50 bins on an average night to prepare for the pizza slices — from chicken bacon ranch to meat lovers — to fly out of the oven. “We’ll definitely be ordering extra dough. Slice pies we sell like crazy,” said Preston Purdy, 34, manager of Sal’s Pizza. “That’s my first priority — making sure we are stock-full of slices. I’ll have everything stocked up by double to make sure we are prepared.” Richard Flores, assistant general manager at Cask ‘n Flagon, said the popular Fenway restaurant has been ready since spring training began in February. “We begin our season in February. We’ve been doing it since the ’60s,” Flores said. “We’re a Fenway tradition.” Pablo Leite of Majestic Painting, meanwhile, was planning to be out 10 hours a day over the weekend painting around the park, from signs to the inside floors, to make sure Fenway is in tip-top shape. “This is good,” said Leite, who flew up from Miami for the job. “This is an experience.”
