REWARDING HUB HEROES
McGregor treats local firefighters to signature booze, Sox
A share of our city’s firefighters will be sitting in the stands at Fenway Park as the Red Sox kick off the World Series next week — all courtesy of Conor McGregor. We’re told that the UFC megastar and his posse headed over to Boston Fire Department Engine 33 Ladder 15 on Boylston Street on Friday, surprising the onduty heroes with a couple of gifts. The Irish fighter strolled up to the fire station bearing bottles of his Proper No. 12 whiskey and World Series tickets, both of which he handed over to a pack of our local fighters to show his appreciation for first responders, a group he also supports by donating a portion of his booze company’s sales to programs all over the world. As Instagram photo evidence shows, McGregor was also at City Table at the Lenox Hotel prior to making his firehouse pitstop. He was apparently in town to throw a whiskeyfueled event at the Back Bay eatery. Specifically, we hear that McGregor hosted a Proper No. 12 luncheon, where he entertained an intimate group of Boston’s hospitality elite. We’re told that among the VIP guests at the McGregor meal were representatives from the Briar Group, whose venues range from innovative Seaport spots Gather and District Hall to classic Hub pubs Ned Devine’s and Solas, as well as Ed Kane and Randy Greenstein from Big Night Entertainment Group, owners of The Grand, Scorpion Bar, Explorateur, the newly opened arcade bar Versus and many other establishments. It’s unclear whether McGregor will be sticking around the city to attend the start of the World Series himself. The tickets he gifted the firefighters were to Game One of the World Series at Fenway on Tuesday.
