Teen charged in Mattapan shooting
Police say it was phone deal gone bad
A 16-year-old is facing several weapons charges after his gun went off during an altercation over a phone sale with a 20-yearold at a pharmacy in Mattapan late last week, police said. Police said they encountered the 16-year-old sus- pect suffering from a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound Friday morning inside Walgreens Pharmacy on Morton Street. While rendering aid, police said they were approached by a 20-yearold who said he had gone to the area to sell a phone to the 16-year-old. Police were told that the two began fighting after the sale of the phone when the buyer realized he allegedly had been given counterfeit money. The fight spilled into the store after the 16-year-old pulled out a handgun. Police were told that two shots were fired. Police said the armed security guard ordered the suspect to drop his weapon and the fight concluded. The buyer realized he, too, had been shot after talking to police officers. He and the alleged shooter were transported to area hospitals, and the 16-yearold is now facing several charges, including delinquent to wit: unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, assault with intent to rob and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Officers spotted a loaded AMT handgun at the scene of the altercation by an armed security guard when rendering aid to the suspect, police said. Police said the 16-yearold from Dorchester, wanted on an outstanding warrant for an armed robbery out of Suffolk County Juvenile Court, will be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court at a later date.
