Treat yourself to Halloween fun at Lawn on D

- By BRETT MILANO

If your Halloween plans involve music, costumes, circus performers and interactive family games, the Lawn on D is the place to be this weekend. It’s Pumpkin Palooza time on the Lawn, the grand finale to a long season of events at Boston’s favorite spot for waterfront fun.

The party begins tomorrow with an evening of homegrown music, sponsored by radio station ALT 92.9 on its ALT Soundstage. Over the past month, the station has been taking submissions from local artists, and the two winners, Best Not Broken and Paper Monsters, will play the Lawn between 5 and 8:30 p.m. Hailing from Manchester, N.H., Paper Monsters is a duo whose sound is acoustically based but full of big anthemic choruses. And Best Not Broken is an impressive Bostonbased band that does wellcrafted, ’60s-rooted power pop with plenty of hooks and harmonies.

After a quiet Friday, when you can drop in one more time to hang out among the lawn games and interactive sculptures, the Pumpkin Palooza gets underway on Saturday. It all starts at noon with a procession around the Lawn through a specially installed pumpkin tunnel, where you can get some help carving the perfect Halloween pumpkin. A full afternoon of family entertainment is in store afterward with a circus workshop and magic show starting at 1 p.m., then a costume parade at 2:30, followed by a juggling exhibition. There’ll also be a firedancing performance at 5 p.m., with a photo booth to make this a day your kids will remember through the winter.

There’s another full evening of music on Saturday, beginning with Lynnfield songwriter Angelo David. A fresh-faced and prolific songwriter with country and pop influences, David seems pegged for future success — not least because he is only 13. The New Hampshire-based Aldous Collins Band plays at 7 p.m., with a lyrical sound that manages to combine folk and funk. And the head- lining band Entrain should need no introduction if you’ve been on the Boston party circuit. The danceable, horn-driven band has lit up stages for many years, both in town and at its base of Martha’s Vineyard.

And it all happens again on Sunday, with another pumpkin procession around the Lawn at noon, followed by more magic at 2 p.m., more juggling at 4 p.m., and one last round of fire dancing at 6 p.m. And at 8 p.m., the stage gears up one more time with the music of the four-piece band Never in Vegas. Whatever your favorite song may be, this band probably has it in its repertoire; they can handle everything from Van Halen to Rick Springfield to Bruno Mars. Last month they played a Patriots pre-game at Gillette Stadium, and the Pats know a good band when they hear one.

The Lawn will remain open through Halloween day, so come by for one last drop-in. Then we’ll see you next summer!
