Cards’ Peterson backs off trade request

-

Three-time All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson backed off his request to be traded from the Arizona Cardinals, saying “it came at a bad time and I was just frustrated” about how badly the season has gone when he made it.

“Honestly I don’t really want to dwell on the situation on what happened. I said what I said,” Peterson said after practice yesterday. “The news came out Monday. It is what it is. It’s business. We’re moving forward.”

Asked why he’d sought a trade, Peterson, a Pro Bowl selection in each of his seven seasons with Arizona, said simply, “You see the record.”

The Cardinals are 1-6 heading into Sunday’s home game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Peterson seemed resigned that he isn’t going anywhere.

“I’ve got two years left on my contract,” Peterson said, “so I’m here.”

Giants deal again

The ork Giants traded defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison to the Lions for a draft pick.

Giants coach Pat Shurmur confirmed the deal without revealing details. The teams are expected to confirm it today after Harrison passes a physical.

A person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press that Giants will receive a fifth-round pick.

The trade is the second for the Giants in less than 24 hours and indicates the organization is cleaning house after four wins in the past 23 regular-season games. New York sent cornerback Eli Apple, a 2016 first-round selection, to New Orleans for two picks on Tuesday.

Broncos waive Kelly

Chad Kelly’s short stint as the Broncos’ backup quarterback is over, and his former teammates and excoaches are trying to ignore the distraction of his dismissal while keeping him in their thoughts.

The Broncos waived the second-year pro a day after he was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass after being accused of entering a couple’s suburban home uninvited.

General manager John Elway huddled with coach Vance Joseph and team president Joe Ellis and “we agreed that releasing Chad was the right thing to do,” Elway said.

Fins’ Wilson to IR

Receiver Albert Wilson has been placed on injured reserve by the Dolphins due to a hip injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to Detroit.

Wilson’s injury won’t require surgery, but a specialist determined he’ll need a lengthy recovery. He leads the Dolphins with 391 yards receiving on 26 receptions, including touchdowns of 75, 74 and 43 yards, and threw a 52-yard touchdown pass . . . .

Jets running back Bilal Powell needs surgery to repair a bulging disk in his neck, and coach Todd Bowles says it’s potentially a careerending injury . . . .

Eagles DE Derek Barnett had shoulder surgery and will miss the rest of the season.
