Gunmen targeting religious sites not new
Yesterday’s deadly shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, killing 11 people and wounding six others during a baby-naming ceremony, was not the first at a place of worship over the past decade. Here is a list of some of the most recent tragic shootings:
Oct. 2, 2006
Charles Roberts, 32, enters West Nickel Mines Amish School in Bart Township in Lancaster, Pa.,, takes hostages and shoots several schoolgirls, killing five, before killing himself.
May 20, 2007
Jason Hamilton, 36, shoots and kills a person in the First Presbyterian Church in Moscow, Idaho, after killing his wife and firing multiple shots inside Latah County Courthouse.
Aug. 12, 2007
Eiken Elam Saimon, 52, shoots and kills a senior pastor and two deacons at the First Congregational Church in Neosho, Mo., wounding five, mostly Pacific Islanders.
Dec. 9, 2007
Matthew Murray, 24, shoots and kills two inside The New Life Church and youth center in Colorado Springs, Colo., before he is shot and killed by a church security officer. He killed two at a training center for Christian missionaries the day before.
Aug. 5, 2012
Wade Michael Page, 40, an Army veteran, shoots 10, killing six inside of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek. He then killed himself.

Floyd Palmer, 52, enters World Changers Church International, a megachurch in College Park, Ga., during morning prayer and targets pastor Creflo Dollar, who is shot dead.
June 18, 2015
Dylann Roof, 21, enters Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., killing nine black worshipers.
March 25, 2017
Emanuel Kidega Samson, 26, shoots and kills a woman in the parking lot of Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch, Tenn., then shoots six more in the chapel.
Nov. 5, 2017
Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, shoots and kills 26 individuals attending service at Sutherland Springs Church in Texas.
Oct. 25, 2018
Gregory Bush, 51, attempts to enter the First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown in Kentucky, a predominantly black church, with a gun but instead kills a black man and black woman at a grocery store.
