Mahomes, Chiefs sweep away Broncos

Patrick Mahomes threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns, Sammy Watkins had 107 yards receiving and two of the scores, and the Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos, 30-23, yesterday in Kansas City, Mo., to wrap up a season sweep and keep their strangleho­ld on the AFC West.

Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt added touchdown catches for the Chiefs (7-1), who have won 19 of their past 21 games against division rivals. That includes all three games this season.

Case Keenum had 262 yards passing and two scores for the Broncos (3-5), while Phillip Lindsay had a big day in his first career start. The undrafted rookie had 95 yards rushing and a score while catching three passes for 17 yards. Eagles 24, Jaguars 18 — Carson Wentz threw three touchdown passes to different players as Philadelph­ia held on to beat Jacksonvil­le in London.

Blake Bortles, restored as the starter despite being pulled a week earlier, completed 24-of-41 passes for 286 yards for the slumping Jaguars (3-5), who lost their fourth straight game. Panthers 36, Ravens 21 — Cam Newton torched the league’s top-ranked defense, completing 21-of-29 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and running for 52 yards and another score as Carolina routed Baltimore in Charlotte, N.C.

Christian McCaffrey had two TDs for Carolina. Saints 30, Vikings 20 — Drew Brees and New Orleans paid Minnesota back for its dramatic loss in the playoffs last season, using two key turnovers, including a 45-yard pick six by P.J. Williams, to fuel a victory in Minneapoli­s.

Alvin Kamara had two touchdowns and Will Lutz made three field goals for the Saints (6-1), Steelers 33, Browns 18 — Ben Roethlisbe­rger threw two touchdown passes to Antonio Brown, James Conner had 212 total yards with two scores, and host Pittsburgh gave some solace to a city grieving from tragedy by beating rival Cleveland.

The Steelers beat the Browns at home for the 15th straight time, one day after a gunman stormed into the Tree of Life Synagogue and killed 11 people. A moment of silence was observed

before the game.

Redskins 20, Giants 13 — In East Rutherford, N.J., safety D.J. Swearinger intercepte­d two passes, Matt Ioannidis had 2.5 sacks, and NFC Eastleadin­g Washington rode its defense to a third straight win, beating New York.

Adrian Peterson caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith and ran for a season-high 149 yards, with the last 64 coming on a touchdown jaunt with 3:06 to play, as the Redskins (5-2) matched their best start since 2008. Bengals 37, Buccaneers 34 — Jessie Bates returned Jameis Winston’s fourth intercepti­on for a touchdown, and Randy Bullock kicked a 44yard field goal on the final play as host Cincinnati held off Tampa Bay.

Winston was benched after matching his career high in picks. Ryan Fitzpatric­k rallied the Buccaneers (3-4) to a 34-34 tie with a pair of touchdown passes, including his 18-yard toss with 1:05 left. Seahawks 28, Lions 14 — Russell Wilson threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to storm to the lead, and Seattle won in Detroit for its fourth victory in five games after opening the season with two losses.

Chris Carson, who had 105 yards rushing, scored on a 7-yard run early in the fourth to put the Seahawks up 28-7.

Bears 24, Jets 10 — Mitchell Trubisky threw two touchdown passes to lead shorthande­d Chicago to a home win against New York.

The Bears (4-3) won without star pass-rusher Khalil Mack (right ankle) and top wide receiver Allen Robinson (groin). Colts 42, Raiders 28 — Andrew Luck threw his third touchdown pass of the game to break a tie with 5:28 to go and Indianapol­is Colts won in consecutiv­e weeks for the first time in three years, beating host Oakland.

Luck hit all three of his tight ends — Eric Ebron, Jack Doyle and Mo Alie-Cox — for TD passes. Cardinals 18, 49ers 15 — Josh Rosen threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to fellow rookie Christian Kirk with 34 seconds to play and Arizona rallied past San Francisco in a matchup of two of the wort teams in the NFL in Glendale, Ariz.

The Cards beat the Niners for the eighth straight time.
