Bars, restaurants stand to win big
Plenty of options for fans to celebrate
Back Bay bars and restaurants are opening hours early today in anticipation of the Boston Red Sox World Series championship parade that’ll come roaring through downtown drawing thousands of baseball fans.
“It should be a busy day,” said Kevin Webb, general manager of Uno Pizzeria and Grill on Boylston Street. “This is going to be my first time. I’m very excited. It was awesome — one of the best records. We’re making sure we have plenty of staff and product.”
Opening its doors early at 9 a.m., Uno is making a special breakfast menu with pizza and French toast sticks.
Meanwhile, local bars along the route are stocking up on alcohol for when fans start taking shots to celebrate the championship team rolling through on duck boats.
“It’s the Boston Red Sox. It’s an awesome event to work and get to see each year,” said Nicole Zapata at Lir. “Usually as the duck boats get closer people start taking shots.”
“We were just talking about the 2004 team,” Zapata added. “It was epic.”
The bar at Whiskey’s is also opening two hours earlier at 9 a.m. to catch the Boston fans.
“We’re making sure we open early so everyone can celebrate,” manager David Taylor, 36, said. “This is my first parade. I hear it is a very busy day and a lot of fun. If I’ve got to work, I’m happy it’s on the parade route.”
For fans who are looking for a keepsake brew for home, the Boston Beer Co., which operates the Samuel Adams brand, says it will release the special Damage Done Double IPA this week only. The beer company says the New England-style India pale ale will be available at the Samuel Adams Brewery in Boston in 32-ounce cans and on draft.
