Politicians and public officials flashed their Red Sox colors as soon as the team shut the door on the L.A. Dodgers to claim its historic World Series championship.

Sporting a navy blue Red Sox tie, bedecked in little red “B’s” state House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo said he stayed up to watch the games, many of which lasted into the early hours of the morning.

“Baseball is something I live and die for,” DeLeo said. “Just to see this once again was such a great feeling. I’m looking forward like everyone else is in terms of the celebration.”

Boston City Councilor Tim McCarthy, who predicted that the Sox would win in five last week, wrote a letter to his son Dolan Patrick McCarthy, 20, who is currently serving at the Fort Benning, Ga., military base and is unable to receive news.

“He’ll probably find out around Thursday morning,” McCarthy said. “He’s probably one of the last Red Sox fans to know. I just told him it was a great win, David Price stepped up, and that me and his mom and brother love him.”

MBTA General Manager Luis Ramirez wrapped up his report to the T’s Fiscal Management & Control Board Monday by talking about the T’s preparation for parade day — and his new wardrobe addition.

“I’m replacing this hat” — he said as he picking up a cream-colored Sox cap featuring the red “B” — “with this hat,” Ramirez said, grabbing a gray cap reading “World Series,” and plopping it on his head.

Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney, wearing a blue Red Sox cap, tweeted out a picture from Game 4 at Dodger Stadium. “Congrats to the fantastic Red Sox. We witnessed Saturday’s come-from-behind win in Dodger Stadium with our grandkids. Last night, we celebrated game 5 in front of the TV. What a series! You made Red Sox nation proud.”

“I’m over the moon,” state Senate President Karen Spilka said. “It was wonderful and when you really talk about what a team can be, should be, is — the Boston Red Sox 2018 is it.”

Gov. Charlie Baker said at a press conference that this Red Sox team has demonstrated time and time again that they are “truly a team.”

“I can’t ever remember over the course of a season or a playoff run like this one so many different players becoming a big part of the story day after day after day,” Baker said. “There are so many unsung heroes and so many people who literally stepped up when they needed to.”

“Congratulations to Alex Cora, David Price, Steve Pearce and the 2018 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox!” said U.S. Rep. Stephen F. Lynch (D-Boston). “Special thanks to John Henry, Tom Warner and Dave Dombrowski for Making Red Sox Nation Proud.”
