Joe Kennedy III said talk of fellow Democrat Beto O’Rourke running for president in 2020 is not so farfetched.

Kennedy campaigned for O’Rourke in Texas, where the rising star lost to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz by less than 3 percentage points in a usually deep-red state.

“He’s a good friend and he’s a good guy and he clearly struck a chord, not just with people around Texas but across the country and I think that was the reason for his extraordinary success,” Kennedy said yesterday of O’Rourke.

“He inspired people across the country — and he inspired people to get involved,” Kennedy added while on Boston Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting” show. “I expect and I hope that his contribution isn’t over.”

Kennedy said “an awful lot of people” have urged his friend to aim higher in 2020.

Kennedy, who ran unopposed this week in the 4th Congressional District, said Democrats winning back the majority in the House on Tuesday “was a good night for our country.”

He said his party will look to “strengthen” the Affordable Care Act, “believe” climate change is real and, as for President Trump, “make sure that we all play by the same set of rules.”

Kennedy said he will also support Nancy Pelosi for speaker.
