Colonial remade, real close

- By MIRIAM SCHWARTZ

Buying a home close to city centers has its benefits — an easier commute and access to public transportation and all the perks of an urban lifestyle. Meanwhile, a home out in the suburbs usually gives buyers more bang for their buck, more square footage and the possibility of a backyard that’s bigger than your average parking space. With 169 Corey St. in Boston, you can enjoy everything city life has to offer with tons of space, a huge tree-lined lot and charm to spare. Ideally located in West Roxbury, the single-family Colonial underwent a thorough renovation in the spring of 2017. The roof, windows, kitchen, baths and systems were all replaced, giving this 1935 home a fresh look and feel while keeping it full of character. From the white picket fence to the dark exterior shutters, the home’s warmth comes from these thoughtful details. The original fireplace in the family room anchors the sun-filled, cozy space where everyone can gather. There’s even an adjacent three-season porch, the perfect place to look out over fall foliage or take in a quiet summer evening. The kitchen was redone in a farmhouse style, offering gleaming white cabinetry (and lots of it) with molding, modern glass tile backsplash and upgraded matching appliances. A formal dining room with wainscoting means even more room for family dinners and holiday entertaining. Want to take it outside? The attached deck gives you direct access to the nicely landscaped backyard. With nearly 2,100 square feet, there’s no shortage of room — or rooms — in the home. There are four bedrooms on the second floor, with big windows and access to one full and one half bath. The third floor features two bonus rooms with almost endless possibilities. There’s even a second full bathroom. What’s nearby? Well, everything. Centre Street for shopping and restaurants, the Chestnut Hill Mall and shops and dining at The Street are just a few minutes way, as is a Wegman’s supermarket. Open house hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The sale of the home, priced at $899,000, is being handled by Andrea McDonough with M&K Luxury Sales at Coldwell Banker, 617-733-1238
