Reinhart, Buffalo top Vancouver

-

Sam Reinhart returned after getting his lip stitched up to lead the Buffalo Sabres in a comeback victory. Reinhart tied it with 1:47 left in regulation, 40 seconds after he set up Jeff Skinner’s goal, and Jack Eichel and Casey Mittelstadt scored in the shootout to lift the Sabres past the Vancouver Canucks, 4-3, yesterday in Buffalo. “We always felt like we were in the game, and that’s something we’ve really changed this year,” said Reinhart, who spent the latter half of the first period in the dressing room getting stitches in his upper lip. Buffalo has won all eight games this season in which Reinhart has a point, while going 1-6-2 when he has not gotten on the scoresheet. “Reino played awesome,” Eichel said. “I thought this was one of the best games I’ve ever seen him play.” Eichel also went to the dressing room to get treated for an undisclosed injury midway through first period but returned eight minutes into the second. Canucks F Brock Boeser will miss at least four games because of a groin injury. Coach Travis Green said Boeser is week to week but “will be fine” after a period of rest. Senators 6, Lightning 4 — Rookie Brady Tkachuk had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Dzingel scored a tiebreaking goal during a four-goal third period as Ottawa rallied to beat host Tampa Bay.

Penguins 4, Coyotes 0 — Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist, Casey DeSmith stopped 39 shots and host Pittsburgh beat Arizona to snap a five-game skid. The losing streak was Pittsburgh’s longest since it lost five in a row from Dec. 11-19, 2015. Flyers 4, Blackhawks 0 — Sean Couturier had two goals and an assist, Brian Elliott made 33 saves and host Philadelphia continued it dominance in the seris by shutting out slumping Chicago.

Predators 5, Stars 4 — Mattias Ekholm scored 2:27 into overtime, and Nashville rallied past host Dallas. Nashville killed off a Dallas power play for the first part of OT, and then Ekholm took a cross-ice pass from Kyle Turris and sent the puck over Stars goalie Ben Bishop. Panthers 4, Islanders 2 — Aleksander Barkov scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, and Florida took down New York in Sunrise, Fla. Troy Brouwer, Mike Hoffman and Denis Malgin also scored for the Panthers, who won their third straight. Canadiens 5, Golden Knights 4 — Andrew Shaw scored twice, Tomas Tatar had the go-ahead goal and host Montreal edged Vegas, spoiling Max Pacioretty’s homecoming. Charles Hudon and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also scored to help the Canadiens snap a two-game skid. Red Wings 4, Hurricanes 3 — Anthony Mantha scored twice and Frans Nielsen netted the deciding goal in the shootout as Detroit beat Carolina in Raleigh, N.C. Rangers 5, Blue Jackets 4 — Jimmy Vesey scored in the fifth round of the shootout to lift New York to a victory in Columbus, Ohio.

Elsewhere in the NHL — The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Taylor Fedun from the Buffalo Sabres for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2020 draft. Buffalo only gets the pick if Fedun, 30, plays 25 NHL games this season including playoffs.
