Oklahoma St. upsets W. Va.

Taylor Cornelius passed for 338 yards, ran for 106 more and threw a touchdown to Tylan Wallace with 42 seconds remaining to rally Oklahoma State past No. 7 West Virginia, 45-41, yesterday in Stillwater, Okla. COLLEGE FOOTBALL West Virginia quarterbac­k Will Grier led the Mountainee­rs down to the Oklahoma State 14-yard line but couldn’t connect with David Sills V on the final play. The loss all but ended West Virginia’s shot at the College Football Playoff and put a dent in Grier’s Heisman Trophy campaign. Oklahoma State (6-5, 3-5) became bowl eligible with the victory. West Virginia (8-2, 6-2, No. 9 CFP) faces Oklahoma next Friday and still has a shot at reaching the Big 12 title game. Alabama 50, The Citadel 17 — Tua Tagovailoa passed for 340 yards and three touchdowns, but the No. 1 Crimson Tide (11-0) struggled for 30-plus minutes before putting away the FCS Bulldogs (4-6) in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Notre Dame 36, Syracuse 3 — Ian Book returned to the starting lineup and threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns to help the No. 3 Fighting Irish (11-0) stay on target for a trip to the College Football Playoff by routing the No. 12 Orange (8-3) at Yankee Stadium.. Michigan 31, Indiana 20 — In Ann Arbor, Mich., Karan Higdon ran for a go-ahead touchdown early in the third quarter and Jake Moody set a school record with six field goals, helping the No. 4 Wolverines (10-1, 8-0 Big Ten) hold off the Hoosiers (5-6, 2-6) ahead of their key clash with Ohio State next week. Georgia 66, UMass 27 — In Athens, Ga., Justin Fields threw two scoring passes and ran for another touchdown, Tyler Simmons had rushing and receiving scores and the No. 5 Bulldogs (10-1) protected their playoff hopes by overwhelmi­ng the Minutemen (4-8). UMass’ Andy Isabella, one of the nation’s leading receivers, capped his career with 15 catches for 219 yards and two long touchdowns. Ohio State 52, Maryland 51 — The Terrapins (5-6, 3-5 Big Ten) failed to convert a twopoint conversion in overtime, and the No. 8 Buckeyes (10-1, 7-1) held on in College Park, Md. Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins ran for three touchdowns and was 28-of-38 for 405 yards and three TDs Penn State 20, Rutgers 7 — In Piscataway, N.J., Trace McSorley threw two touchdown passes to tight end Pat Freiermuth, and the defense set up two touchdowns with turnovers as the No. 16 Nittany Lions (8-3, 5-3 Big Ten) beat the Scarlet Knights (1-10, 0-7) for the 12th straight time. Washington 42, Oregon State 23 — Jake Browning threw three touchdown passes and Myles Gaskin rushed for 135 yards in the final home game of their careers as the No. 17 Huskies (8-3, 6-2) scored 28 first-quarter points on their way to beating the Beavers (2-9, 1-7) in Seattle. Washington has a winnertake-all matchup with No. 8 Washington State in the Apple Cup next Friday for the Pac-12 North title. Holy Cross 32, Georgetown 31 — Macklin Kortebein blocked two fourth-quarter punts that were returned for touchdowns and Miles Alexander ran in from 2 yards out with 42 seconds left as the Crusaders (5-6, 4-2) rallied from a 26-point halftime deficit to beat the Hoyas (5-6, 4-2) in Washington. Princeton 42, Penn 14 — in Princeton, N.J., John Lovett passed for 255 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards and a score as the Tigers (10-0, 7-0) routed the Quakers (6-4, 3-4) for their first perfect season since 1964. It was Princeton’s fourth outright Ivy League title. Maine 27, Elon 26 — Earnest Edwards returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, Drew Belcher scored on a 1-yard run and the Black Bears (8-3, 7-1) clinched their first Colonial Athletic Associatio­n championsh­ip outright by beating the Phoenix (6-4, 4-3) in Orono, Maine.
