John Cena sets return to WWE

John Cena is homebound — and by that, the West Newbury native means he’s making a return to the WWE. After spending some serious time out of the ring and in the Hollywood spotlight, Cena has announced he’ll be heading back to his wrestling roots, sharing his upcoming schedule on social media.

Cena started off the tweet by revealing he’s spent a good part of this past year in China, where he’s been working on a project with Jackie Chan .To be exact, The Champ wrote he’s been in the Asian nation for 160 days while filming the movie “Project X-traction”, whose plot centers on a pair of special forces vets who are tasked with getting a group of civilians safely through Iraq’s Highway of Death to the Green Zone.

“Today is the final day of that project,” Cena posted on Twitter this weekend, adding that his several-month stay in China was “an experience I’ll never forget.”

Looking ahead, he then gave a whirlwind rundown of his upcoming obligations, including only one day of rest before he has to hit the press circuit hard to promote the flick “Bumblebee” until its Dec. 21 release. “Then, I truly return home @WWE @TheGarden 12/26 #HLR #NeverGiveUp,” he added.

As of late, Cena’s onscreen commitments have prevented him from participating in WWE events on any consistent basis. The last time he took part in a show was during the Super Show-Down in Australia last month. Shortly thereafter, the celeb was suddenly taken off the lineup for the Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. The reason for his abrupt removal remains unconfirmed, but it was made in the wake of journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder within the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

In the coming months, though, it seems like Cena will once again be a fixture within the WWE, as he’s slated for a steady stream of shows. His presence has been confirmed for a slew of RAW and SmackDown live events from Dec. 26 through Jan. 14, including a televised Monday Night RAW event taking place on Jan. 7 in Orlando, Fla.
