Allen returns, carries Bills past Jaguars
Josh Allen scored the goahead touchdown on a 14yard run in the fourth quarter, and the Buffalo Bills beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 2421, yesterday in Orchard Park, N.Y., a game marred by a fight that led to the ejections of Leonard Fournette and Shaq Lawson.
Fournette scored twice for the Jags to tie it at 14 in the second quarter. He finished with 95 yards on 18 carries before he was thrown out with 2:57 left in the third.
Allen also threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Robert Foster in the rookie quarterback’s first game since missing four with a sprained throwing elbow. Rookie receiver Isaiah McKenzie scored on a 6-yard run off a sweep, and Buffalo (4-7) came off its bye week off to win consecutive games.
The Jaguars (3-8) dropped their seventh consecutive game in their longest losing streak since a nine-game slide in 2016.
Tempers boiled over when Jaguars receiver Donte Moncrief caught what was initially ruled a 30-yard TD pass at the left pylon in the third. He was on the ground battling for control of the ball with Levi Wallace when a Jaguars player struck Poyer from behind, and then Bills guard Lawson ran in and hit Fournette.
Lawson and Fournette pushed their way to side of the stands and traded punches while Jags running back Carlos Hyde and Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes tried to separate them.
Broncos 24, Steelers 17 — Nose tackle Shelby Harris picked off Ben Roethlisberger’s pass to Antonio Brown in the end zone with 1:03 remaining as host Denver snapped Pittsburgh’s sixgame winning streak.
The Broncos (5-6) used four takeaways to counter a 97-yard touchdown toss from Roethlisberger to JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Roethlisberger was 41-of56 for 462 yards and two picks. The Steelers (7-3-1) dropped below the Patriots in the AFC seeding race.
Vikings 24, Packers 17 — Kirk Cousins bounced back from his worst game of the season with 342 passing yards and three touchdowns without a turnover, and Minnesota overcame some early gaffes to outlast depleted Green Bay in Minneapolis.
Completing 29 of his 38 attempts, Cousins found Dalvin Cook, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen for scores. Sheldon Richardson had two sacks to lead the defense’s game-long stifling of Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings (6-4-1) pushed the Packers (4-6-1) further back in the NFC wild card race.
Seahawks 30, Panthers 27 — In Charlotte, N.C., Russell Wilson threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns and Sebastian Janikowski kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired to help Seattle complete a comeback victory against Carolina.
After Graham Gano missed a 52-yard field goal with 1:40 left in the game that would have given the Panthers the lead, Wilson moved around in the pocket until finding Tyler Lockett downfield for a 43-yard completion, setting up the winning kick.
Colts 27, Dolphins 24 — Andrew Luck threw three touchdown passes, Adam Vinatieri kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired and host Indianapolis beat Miami for its fifth consecutive victory.
Indianapolis (6-5) scored 13 points in the final 8:30 to erase a 10-point deficit. It’s the longest win streak for the Colts since 2014.
Browns 35, Bengals 20 — Baker Mayfield threw a career-high four touchdown passes in another growingup-fast performance, and Cleveland ended one of the NFL’s longest streaks of road futility with a victory against Cincinnati, which lost quarterback Andy Dalton to a thumb injury.
Cleveland (4-6-1) got its first road win since 2015, emphatically snapping a streak of 25 straight losses that was one shy of the Lions’ NFL record.
Eagles 25, Giants 22 — Jake Elliott kicked a 43-yard field goal with 22 seconds remaining, and host Philadelphia rallied for a victory against New York.
Ravens 34, Raiders 17 — Rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson ran for a touchdown and threw for a score, Terrell Suggs returned a fumble 43 yards for a touchdown and host Baltimore ran past struggling Oakland.
Chargers 45, Cardinals 10 — Philip Rivers tied the NFL record for consecutive completions (25) and set marks for the most to start a game and the highest percentage in a game (28-of-29) as the Los Angeles rolled past Arizona in Carson, Calif.
Buccaneers 27, 49ers 9 — Jameis Winston threw for 312 yards and two TDs to help host Tampa Bay snap a four-game losing streak by beating San Francisco.
