In another deadly case of domestic violence, the shooting deaths of a former couple on Bickford Street in Jamaica Plain last week has been ruled a murder-suicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and Suffolk District Attorney John P. Pappas.

Boston police and Pappas said Lodimira DosSantos, 23, was fatally shot in her home with a 9mm handgun by her former boyfriend, Jose DosSantos.

A mother of two, she was born in Cape Verde, according to her obituary.

Though they shared the same last name, authorities said she and her killer never married.

Jose DosSantos, 32, also stabbed a 33-year-old man who attempted to save Lodimira DosSantos before turning the gun on himself the evening of Nov. 19, authorities said.

“Domestic violence is about power and domination,” Pappas said. “Lodimira’s murder was committed by a man who could not or would not relinquish control over her, even in the very place where she should have been safest: her own home.”

The stabbing victim’s injuries were not lifethreatening, Pappas said. A second woman present in the home was not physically harmed, he said.

Pappas said Jose DosSantos possessed an active license to carry firearms issued in the town of Randolph.

“Domestic violence can take many forms,” Pappas said. “It occurs in relationships of all types, across every demographic. If you or a loved one see the red flags of verbal abuse, controlling behavior, or physical violence, please don’t hesitate to reach out for help.”

A funeral Mass for Lodimira DosSantos was held Monday at St. Patrick Church in Roxbury.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by four siblings.
